We visited Istanbul Butterfly Farm in Beykoz recently. To be honest, even though “Istanbul” is in the name, I noticed that everyone searches for it as “Beykoz Butterfly Farm”. So I used Beykoz in the title of this post on purpose. Because this is really a great place, close to nature, good for clearing your head, and great for spending time with kids.

Informative Video at the Entrance

As soon as you go in, you watch an informative video that lasts about 10 minutes. This video explains the butterfly life cycle, how they grow, and their role in nature in simple language for both children and adults.

Then you move on to the area they call the “pupa cabinet”. This is a really interesting place where you can witness butterflies coming out of their cocoons. I learned many things here that I really did not know.

500 Square Meter Area and the Butterflies’ Living Space

The indoor area of the farm is about 500 square meters. When you first step inside, you are greeted by a cool and humid environment. On the right there is a decorative pool where tiny fish swim, and kids are immediately drawn to it.

Just ahead, the area where butterflies fly begins. But I have to say this from the start, there are not many butterflies inside. This may be the farm’s only downside. You do not see a large number of butterflies, but the species there are quite special and exotic. So let us say, quality, not quantity.

Things You Do Not Know About Butterflies

What makes this experience different from others is that you can watch the process in detail, from the birth of butterflies to their death. You understand that butterflies are not just beautiful creatures, their place in nature is actually very important. It is both educational and fun, especially for children.

Huge Green Area, The Real Beauty of the Farm

In my opinion, the best part of Istanbul Butterfly Farm is the huge green area right behind it. There is a wide grassy area, a flat space where children can run and play, and table and chair sets placed under the shade of the trees. There is also a small cafe area. Cold drinks, simple snacks, and food options are available if you want them. It is a place you can easily visit without bringing anything with you.

How Much Is the Butterfly Farm Entrance Fee?

The entrance fee was 400 TL per person when we went, in May 2025. They did not charge for a 3 year old. The price may seem a bit high, but when you consider the indoor environment, the layout of the area, and the green space outside, it makes sense. Parking is also completely free. That is a big plus, especially in a place like Istanbul.

I Do Not Know How Crowded It Gets on Weekends

We went on a weekday, so it was quite calm inside. To be honest, I am not sure how busy it gets on weekends. If you want a quiet visit, I recommend going on a weekday.

Istanbul Butterfly Valley Transportation

We went by our own car, the road is quite easy and you can find it easily with navigation. But for those who use public transportation, some bus lines go as far as Beykoz center. From there, you can reach it with a short taxi ride. Still, especially for families with children, going by car is the most comfortable option.

In short, if you want to be close to nature and give children a different experience, Istanbul Butterfly Farm in Beykoz is a nice choice. I definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to see the butterfly life cycle, observe nature, and take a breath among the greenery.
